Listen to This: LP Giobbi and Portugal. The Man, "Bittersweet"

A Fusion of Turntablism and Musicianship

Good things are bound to happen when the technology of turntableism, songwriting and live performance unite to create something new. LP Giobbi knows this well as she's built a career as a dance floor DJ. However, she also applies those skills to the compositions of other musicians with a fusion of beats from the booth. Through it all, she employs a healthy serving of both inventiveness and serendipity.

A lover of the Grateful Dead and Bill Evans (and a musician herself) - jazz piano - Leah Chisholm (known professionally as LP Giobbi) has recently announced her LP, Dotr, which will be released October 18 on Ninja Tune’s imprint Counter Records.

Ahead of that, however, LP has released a collaboration with Portugal. The Man. Titled, "Bittersweet" the track provides an appropriately summertime groove featuring a mid-tempo that is too fast for cooking dinner and a smidge too slow for wild dance floor abandon. This is driving music, particularly for rides commenced at dusk with the windows rolled down. Preferably behind the wheel of an automobile that requires a key for ignition. Call your friends, tell them you're coming to pick them up. In fact, you're already on your way.
